One of the first things I do on every new Android phone is change the animation speed. Why? Because so does the phone feel so much faster. Even the fastest phones can benefit from this fine-tuning ̵1; once you get used to it, the stock animation speed feels sluggish in comparison.
Welcome to ICYDK (In case you did not know), a series where we offer tips and tricks that are not necessarily new but which may have gone under the radar or otherwise not been well known.
But this is also not a fine-tuning that you find in the system settings – not in any case. This setting is actually found in the hidden developer options menu, which can be activated by tapping Build Number (found in the About Phone menu on most phones) seven times. When activated, you will have a new entry titled “Developer Options” in the phone’s settings menu.
Note The locations for building numbers and developer options may vary depending on the phone manufacturer. You may need to find a guide specific to your phone if you have difficulty finding them.
After opening the Developer Options menu, scroll down to the Drawing section. From there, you will find the three options for window, transition and animator scale. Change them all from 1x to 0.5x and you will feel one immediate difference.
You can, of course, turn off animations if you want, but I personally find it a jarring and choppy experience. You can test it if you want and see how it feels. You can always change back if you do not like it.
