We don't mind sending your mom a high-flowering flower bouquet for Mother's Day but the time is running out. You only have one day to pull together a thought-provoking gift, and we're here to help. If the non-essential companies are closed it means that a spa day or a classic Mother's Day lunch is out, but that's ok, especially if you have a budget.

Or you can grab some things from the store and make her a fun home kit with sweets that she may not get herself, from fine coffee to wine (more below).

Make a photo book or calendar

Your mother will not have this gift in hand on May 10, but do not discount this gift yet – it is well worth the wait. You have already stored several photo albums as well as hundreds of photos on your phone and laptop. Collect the photos and use them to create a photo book or calendar to send to your mom for Mother's Day. You can use services like Mixbook, Google Photos and Walmart Photo to keep costs low.

When you're done creating the photo book, you can send it to your mom. Some sites offer free shipping if you spend a certain amount, otherwise shipping rates will vary depending on the service you use. You can always tease the gift on a beautiful card or photo that you selected from the book with a note that this photo is just the beginning.

Planting a small flower garden

If you live nearby you can surprise your mother on Mother's Day by planting a small flower garden in her house. Hardware stores, supermarkets and nurseries that are open in your area will have houseplants, herbs and seeds. Everything needed for a little work in the end to create something she can enjoy all summer long.

Here's another idea if you don't have a green thumb. Try to make wine cork plants. First you have to shell out several wine corks and place a small juicy one in each of them. Then fill it with soil to maintain the plant. You can glue a magnet on the back of the cork so that she can place it on her refrigerator. Succulents require a little water and sunlight, so maintenance is lower than other plants.

Want to go for something more practical? Think of a vegetable garden . (Just be ready for a lot more work.)

Make her a care package

Getting stuck inside is not fun – and even if your mom is a smart online shopper, she might focus more on necessities. Thankfully you can ruin her: Put in a little kit with things your mom likes, such as coffee, books or wine. Here are some options to get you started.

Wine Lover: Give your mom the settled day she deserves with a wine package. It may contain a bottle of wine, bath salts and a good book to read.

Coffee Friends: If your mother cannot start any task without the first cup of coffee, make her a coffee set . It may include a mug with her favorite coffee and a diary or a planner in which she can keep her information written.

You can even collect small necessities she needs, such as lotion, chapstick and hand soap. Or if she is a foodie makes her a dry food basket that she has never tried. If your mom happens to enjoy cooking, here are 8 must have kitchen utensils under $ 20 which we absolutely love.

Make a door hanger

Get creative and create a door hanger or wreath to hang on the front door. It doesn't have to be anything fancy – you can do it from tissue and a sheet of paper. You can find quick and easy designs on Pinterest.

Or if you want to use your design skills you can find a metal wire (like a coat hanger) to create a frame and then gather some greenery around your house. For example, you can use evergreen leaves or pine. Use materials such as floss, fishing line or thin metal wire to attach greenery to the metal frame. When your wreath is complete, tie a ribbon around the top so you can hang it on the door.
