In addition to the announced new options for its Shape series, Nanoleaf took the cover from a new Essential smart lighting line. As the name suggests, it fits in the more traditional form with an affordable $ 20 smart lamp and $ 50 LED strip. And unlike the Nanoleaf products that came earlier, Essentials uses wire for smart home communication.
A light bulb with a pointed profile
First up in the Essentials Line is the new $ 20 Nanoleaf Essentials lamp. Sometimes it’s hard to remember, but the first product was a smart light bulb that it introduced on Kickstarter.
Nanoleaf’s latest light bulb recalls that legacy thanks to its rhombicosidode decahedron form. For those of you who are not geometric majors, it is a solid with 20 plain triangular faces, 30 square faces, 12 plain pentagonal faces, 60 corners and 120 edges.
The Nanoleaf Essentials lamp comes in A19 size and supports 16M + colors and tunable whites. According to Gimmy Chu, CEO of Nanoleaf, while it manages colors, a lot of focus went into white lighting. According to the company, the Essentials lamp offers the largest maximum brightness range over all color temperatures.
An expandable LED strip
Nanoleaf did not just announce a light bulb. It also announced the Essential LED strip. It is available in two formats, a $ 50 2-meter starter kit and a $ 25 1-meter expansion kit. It is an RGBCCWW LED strip and thus provides dedicated cool and warm white lighting. Like Essentials Bulb, Nanoleaf says it invests heavily in providing the best possible white lighting, as it sees it as the most useful feature of the strip.
Thread and smart home features
The original Nanoleaf light bulb was a Bluetooth deal, which limited its capacity. While the new Essentials line supports Bluetooth, Nanoleaf also integrated the wire standard into the devices. This means that it can form a network with other threads, so you get faster response times and better reliability.
These are also smart lights, so you get the usual app and voice controls. The LED strip also has a control module, much like the Nanoleaf Shapes lighting. In addition, Essentials lamps come with a circadian rhythm function. When you activate it, the lights will change color temperatures subtly to match the time of day.
Nanoleaf did not announce when the Essentials line would launch yet, but you can sign up for announcements on its website when it’s ready to reveal more.
