Google announced a new smart speaker on Wednesday, called. There’s a lot we know about the fabricated device, and a lot we still need to find out – for example if Nest Audio actually lives up to the hype and how it compares . (If is any indication, this may be the Alexa killer Google has been hoping for.)
We guide you through the most important things to learn more about Nest Audio’s price, colors, sales dates and features. And we explain what the new name means for other Google Home ($ 99 at Walmart) and Nest devices.
What is Nest Audio and which Google speaker will it replace?
Nest Audio replaces the originalbut despite the similar name, it is not the successor to . Other smart Google speakers that you can buy today include advanced , (before ) and and smart screens.
How much does Nest Audio cost and when is it sold?
Right now, the Google Store Nest Audio takes pre-orders for $ 100 (£ 90, AU $ 149) but will drop $ 20 for every two you buy, making them $ 90 each. Google will begin delivering Nest Audio orders in the US, Canada and India on October 5. The unit will be available at masons and mortars in 21 countries from 15 October.
What colors does Nest Audio come in?
You can buy Nest Audio in five pastel colors: chalk (white), charcoal (black), sage (green), sand (pink) and sky (blue). Interestingly, Google says that the fabric-like mesh material surrounding the speaker is made from 70% recycled plastic.
What has improved during the first Google Home?
The new Nest Audio replaces Google Home’s single 2-inch speaker with a 3-inch subwoofer to control bass and a three-quarter-inch high-pitched treble. There is also a quad-core processor instead of the original dual-core Google Home processor, which should speed up response times and help create richer sounds.
As with last year’s updated Nest Mini ($ 50 on best buy), Nest Audio has a dedicated machine learning chip that performs some of the processing previously handled on Google’s cloud-based data center (translation: faster response, better integrity).
Instead of looking like an air freshener or a miniature nuclear power plant, Nest Audio is a bit more loaf, which I personally think is an improvement.

Among mine, clear brand is one that annoyed me over and over again. With several Nest-branded smart speakers, it really seems like Google is embracing “Nest” as the new brand. However, the company has also bounced back and forth a few times and confused the matter. I guess Nest is here to stay.
Which mobile app will Nest Audio use: Google Home or Nest?
Part of the confusion surrounding the new name is which app to use to control Nest Audio from your phone. There are two mobile apps – one for Nest, one for Google Home – but the names of the devices do not match the apps. The Nest app controls the company’s smart, and , but if you want to set up a Nest Mini or probably Nest Audio, you need to use the Google Home app.
Are there any new Google Assistant commands?
If available, Google did not announce them along with the new Nest Audio smart speaker. Instead, Google marked the speakers, as the company recently . In addition, Google owned a large portion of its presentation , which it says will add some features in the coming weeks (probably independent of the Nest Audio launch).
