Thor. Iron Man. Captain America. Holk.. They have all had their origin stories played on the big screen. Now it's Black Widow's turn. The standalone Black Widow movie starts Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will show Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff lost and divided – until she finds herself fighting a new villain.
debuted on December 3, with images previously shown to fans at D23 and Comic-Con. Romanoff approaches the door of an apartment building with his gun drawn and she comes face to face with another woman with her gun also pulled. It's Florence Pugh as the character Yelena Belova, whom Romanoff calls "sis".
The new trailer gives fans a closer look atas the fatherly character Alexei Shostakov, also known as the Red Guardian; as did Rachel Weisz as the character Melina. This may mean that fans will not only see Romanoff reconnect with their killer "family" but she will also fight with them.
On December 7, Marvel also debuted a new Black Widow poster and displayed new images from Brazil Comic Con that revealed Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian and Melina married . Everything we know about the Black Widow movie
The movie will be shown in Budapest. Fans first heard Romanoff mention Budapest during the first Avengers movie in 2012, when she talked to Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) about a mysterious adventure in the Hungarian city.
"It's a film about self-forgiveness … and family," Johansson said in an interview with Vanity Fair on November 26. "In the movie Black Widow, the character is when we find her in a moment of real. Throughout the film by meeting herself in many ways – and all the things that make her her – she actually gets through that crisis on the other side and can recover in a space where she is a more grounded self-awaited person. It's her journey. "
Johansson also confirmed that the film had wrapped photography in mid-November.
There could even be a cameo from Avengers member Tony Stark / Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) according to Deadline. But Marvel has not yet officially announced that Downey Jr. is in the movie, and neither Marvel nor Disney responded immediately to a request for comment on the casting mention.
On October 1, 2019, actor William Hurt was photographed on the film set Black Widow creating a fan theory that he will convince his role as General "Thunderbolt" Ross in the Marvel universe during a possible final point scene. General Ross appeared in Infinity War as an opponent against Captain America and Black Widow. General Ross also had a cameo in Endgame during the funeral scene.
When does it happen?
The movie will be set shortly after Captain America: Civil War but before Infinity War and Endgame, making it a prequel to the newer Avengers films. It makes sense considering what happened to Romanoff during Endgame.
In the film Black Widow, fans will see what happened after Romanoff went into exile after allowing Captain America and Bucky Barnes to flee in the Civil War.
What images were displayed at Comic-Con and D23?
Participants at Comic-Con 2019 saw some pictures from an epic fight scene between Scarlett Johansson and the participation of Florence Pugh as a character Yelena Belova. The two are described as sisters.
The SDCC images include earlier images of Romanoff from Marvel films such as Iron Man 2, Age of Ultron, Civil War and Endgame.
The video then moves to a shot of Budapest, where Romanoff approaches the door of an apartment building with her gun pulled out. Romanoff searches every room until she hears a woman with a Russian accent say, "I know you're out." It's Belova and her gun is also pulled.
The two have a knock-down, pull-out fight in different rooms in the apartment. Belova's moves match the Romanoffs, which could mean that they were trained by the same person. The fight ends with the characters choking each other on the floor with a shower curtain.
The SDCC images also include a motorcycle hunt, and Romanoff and Belova share a drink where Romanoff calls her "SIS". It also shows Romanoff saying, "I have a very specific set of skills" and wants to wipe the red from her ledger.
Interestingly, there are some pictures of other women dressed in suits such as Black Widow's, which means other female Russian agents could replace her at any time.
expand somewhat on what was seen at SDCC and also show a new white suit for Black Widow. The fight scene between ScarJo and Pugh culminates in the reveal that Pugh is Black Widow's sister, Yelena, and the fight was just her welcoming Natasha home.
Who is the main villain, Taskmaster?
Other SDCC images show Romanoff's car blown up by the villainous Taskmaster. They fight and Romanoff notices that he can mirror all her fighting moves – much like Belova in the previous fight. Can Belova secretly be Taskmaster, or is there more to this mysterious baddie?
The Supervillain made his first appearance in the 1980 series The Avengers. His superpowers include the ability to mimic the opponent's physical movements simply by watching them.
Taskmaster wears a hood over his head and uses a protective shield. In the series, Taskmaster also taught criminals how to improve their combat abilities.
Marvel Studios' visual development director, Andy Park, posted on Instagram on July 22 the first concept art for the film, showing Black Widow fighting Taskmaster.

The Red Guardian first appeared in the series in The Avengers No. 43. The series has Shostakov as a longtime agent for the KGB, but it is unclear yet whether his character will be an enemy or ally of Romanoff.
