Talks on a second stimulus check have finally resumed – here’s the latest status update.

After an almost week-long daily meeting between Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was looking for common ground on an elusive financial aid package, the House of Representatives took over on Thursday night voted to approve a $ 2.2 trillion cut of Heroes Act, which some call Heroes Act 2.0. The partisan bill passed largely along party lines but has little chance of getting the Senate’s approval.

Along with the vote in Thursday’s House, Mnuchin and Pelosi spoke three times during the day in an attempt to reach a last-minute deal on a range of relief measures, from extended unemployment benefits to another round of second stimulus control of up to $ 1200 for qualified Americans. On Thursday night, Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol building that she was reviewing documents from Mnuchin in preparation for further discussions.

Second stimulus check for $ 1200 max still on the table

Democratic and Republican lawmakers have decided on the need for a second direct payment of up to $ 1,200 per eligible American adult and additional money for relatives (find out which counts as an addict and how old do you have to be to qualify for your own check).

The recently passed House proposal – which Democrats refer to as an “updated version of the Heroes’ Act” (PDF) – contains similar provisions for stimulus checks as in March CARES Act and expands who is considered an addict, in accordance with the requirements of the Hero Act.

The new bill – which Pelosi uses as a starting point for its negotiators – would send $ 500 to all dependents that the taxpayer can claim as a dependent, regardless of age, according to the new bill (“the number of relatives of taxpayers for such a tax year.”) Mnuchin uses Problem Solvers’ $ 1.5 trillion proposal as a starting point for its business. While the two sides continue to talk, they have time to reach an agreement and gain control of the Americans before. November 3 election.

Next Stimulus Controls: What to Expect

Money for the aviation industry to prevent redundancies

Wage protection included in the CARES Act expires on 1 October and airlines are threatening to lay off thousands of workers after that time. The new housing proposal (which again is not legal) extends the wage support program to the aviation industry to prevent mass redundancies. American Airlines and United Airlines continued on October 1 to 32,000 employees when the assistance ceased.

Improved unemployment to sustain millions of jobseekers

An interim measure for the federal government to fund $ 300 a week improved unemployment pay was scheduled to run six weeks and has already been completed in some states.

An important dispute in the debate, the Democrats want a new bill to provide $ 600 per week in addition to the state benefits just as the CARES Act did in March. Republicans want to reduce the figure to $ 300. The problem-solving proposal puts the figure at $ 450 for eight weeks, with an increase afterwards. The new house bill includes $ 600 for unemployment benefits through January 2021.

Wage protection programs to help small businesses

The purpose of helping employers keep workers on the payroll provides the wage protection program in the CARES Act with forgivable loans to small businesses as an incentive to keep employees on the payroll – people who would otherwise have lost their jobs during the pandemic. According to the revised Heroes’ Act, the plan would cover the restaurant industry, independent operators of venues and the aviation industry.

Tax deductions for employees to help companies keep staff

A program administered by the IRS already exists to provide employers with a tax break to keep employees on pay, until the end of 2020. The new housing proposal renews tax breaks to encourage employers to keep workers on pay.

$ 100 bills

Enhanced unemployment benefits are already coming to an end in many states, leaving people anxiously awaiting a new aid package that includes more funding for the program.

Extended ban on deportation and potential rent support

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention used an obscure health law to cancel expulsions until 13 December, as long as the tenants fill in the necessary paperwork.

Without exclusion protection, it is estimated that up to 40 million people over 17 million households could lose their homes if the economy does not recover before the last protection expires. The new housing proposal includes protection for eviction and financial support for homeowners to compensate for reductions in rent payments.

Protection for companies from certain coronavirus lawsuits

Liability protection is high on the agenda of Republican lawmakers. Introduced in Republican HEALS Act proposal, the measure would set a limit on lawsuits against employers, schools and caregivers in connection with coronavirus exposure, with the exception of gross negligence.

With submission votes expected to rise this election year, the USPS will feel a greater burden with fewer resources.

Money to help the USPS manage the election period

Both Democrats and Republicans have advanced bills with an eye to fund a US Postal Service in crisis ahead of an election in which up to 80 million people are expected to do so vote by mail. The new housing proposal includes additional funding for the USPS. The House of Representatives earlier approved a USPS account it was not picked up by the senate. The Senate’s ‘lean’ bill did not clear the House.

Support for election security

The pandemic is expected to create a sharp increase in postal votes during the November 3 US presidential election and many have expressed concern about how the USPS will handle this. The government have not seen evidence of a concerted attempt to commit fraud with posts. But the new bill comes with funding to ensure the security of the election.

Funding for schools to fight coronavirus on campus

Funding to pay for hygiene protocols, testing and other accommodation during the coronavirus pandemic are top priorities on both sides at a time to mitigate the spread of the virus among students and teachers. The new house bill contains money especially for schools.

When some schools opened until August, data from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association show a 14% increase in cases among children in the previous two weeks, from September 10 to September 24.
