Fans who usually work with their cosplay clothes and plan their schedule for the New York Comic Con have been forced to rethink things this year. New York Comic Con has participated in similar events, including San Diego Comic Con and the new DC FanDomeand became virtual due to coronavirus pandemic. This year, the NYC event is called New York Comic Con x MCM Comic Con’s Metaverse, and it runs from October 8 to October 11 online. The long name reflects the combination of the New York event and the MCM Comic Con series of UK events.

“This is everyone’s show; no matter where on earth you are, Metaverse is your home,” reads a statement on the official website, findthemetaverse.com. An earlier event was held online in August. Here’s what you need to know to attend the October event.

What happens and how can I watch it?

As with other comic books that have taken place this year, the meat of the New York Comic Con will consist of video panels including creators, writers and actors from all comic book genres, including television, movies and video games. A complete schedule is available online. Once completed, the free panels will be posted on the event’s YouTube channel at YouTube.com/NYCC. (Subscribe here for channel updates.)

But not everything is free. If you want to spend money, there are a variety of options. You can pay for a very short digital meeting and greeting with your choice of a variety of celebrities, including Garrett Wang from Star Trek: Voyager. You can pay for a celebrity to make you a personal recorded video. And you can pay to attend a virtual Dungeons & Dragons workshop featuring podcast hosts Clint, Justin, Travis and Griffin McElroy.

When is it?

Although there are some discussions going on during the days leading up to the main event, most of the show is from October 8 to October 11. The video starts at 9 PT on October 8, 05:00 PT on October 9, 05:35 on October 10 and 05:00 on October 11. The panels run until approximately 20.00 PT daily. Free panels are then published on YouTube, so you can watch your own schedule.

Highlights from the schedule:

Russo Brothers and Kevin Smith

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo will join others from both DC Comics and Marvel to discuss the complex relationship between the two series. They will also share content from Slugfest, an upcoming documentary series about DC and Marvel on the streaming service Quibi with a small piece. Filmmaker Kevin Smith will moderate the discussion.

Panel: 14:45 PT on October 8.

Big Hero 6 series

Stars and producers from Disney XD’s Big Hero 6 The Series discuss the animated show and share the third season.

Panel: 13.00 PT on 11 October.

Fall Guy’s creator

Fall guys, a silly Battle Royale game, is one of the hottest video games out there. In this panel, Brian David Gilbert from Polygon interviews the creators of the game’s past, present and future.

Panel: 15:55 PT on October 8th.

Star Trek Universe

Space is still the last limit. Cast members and producers from Star Trek; Lower Decks and Star Trek: Discovery will feature back-to-back panels, featuring surprising guests.

Panel: 09.00 PT on 8 October.

Doctors who

The first female doctor, Jodie Whittaker, and co-stars Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh, join Salon’s Melanie McFarland to review the twists and turns and their favorite moments in the iconic show.

Panel: 10:40 PT on October 8th.

How about cosplay?

These carefully designed suits do not have to sit and collect dust. Congress organizers collaborated with SYFY Wire for a virtual costume contest. Amateur cosplayers are asked to follow SYFY Wire on Instagram, then post a photo of their homemade cosplay on their personal Instagram page with the hashtag #FanFaveCosplayContest, and tag @syfywire and @newyorkcomiccon. Contributions can be sent until October 6 and voting begins on October 8.

There’s also a pro cosplayer event, NYCC’s annual Cosplay Center’s virtual championship for Cosplay, starting October 10. Fifty cosplayers who specialize in either armor or needlework will be judged for an event hosted by Jaremi Carey from RuPaul’s Drag Race. (You can watch a video of the event 2019.)

Online shopping con

Want physical stuff from a virtual con? Various sellers will sell figures, pins, clothes and more that show popular characters.

  • Nacken’s official brand page sells shirts, badges, plush toys and more. We like the T-shirt that exclaims “I was not there” and the full version of New York’s famous Pizza Rat.
  • Entertainment Earth offers is here and include the famous “This is good” meme dog, plus one Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary.
  • Diamond Select offers a glow in the dark of Venom and more.
  • DKEToys will make its Comic Con-related articles live on October 8.
  • Sideshow will offer Comic Con clothes and swag, but you have to register to see most things.
  • The popular figurine maker Funko makes merch, but it is so popular that fans had to sign up for a lottery by September 28 if they hoped to be eligible to shop NYCC-exclusive.
