You can make a bag as water-resistant as you like, but liquids can still get through a regular metal or plastic lock. This is the problem with the outdoor supplier Nite Ize, which will be solved with their new RunOff bags.
Nite Ize had to construct a completely new method of zippers, which throws out a century or two of the convention to seal sides that interlock at each millimeter. When the "TRU Zip" head ends up in the recess at the far end, the soft bag is completely airtight: putting a firm one hundred pounds of force on top did not give as much as a crack.
The company aims to attract public travelers, because the bags are perfect for keeping liquids from leaking out of rocket sets and makeup bags. They are also good for waterproof attachments, which are practical for keeping a damp bathing suit from coating the inside of the backpack with moisture.
The RunOff bags are not without trade-offs: they take much more power than a regular bag to close, enough that small children or people with arthritis may not be able to close them completely. But with bags from the size of a wallet up to about eighteen inches, you should be able to find one for many applications. Prices range from $ 25-55 based on size, and they will hit retail shelves immediately.
