While the story of reinforced reality player Osterhout Design Group has ceased, the epilogue of its death continues.
Following ODG's intellectual property rights, including patents and trademarks, went up for sale via Hilco Bankstream last month, Heritage Global Partners manages the auction of ODG's physical assets.
An inheritance specialist confirms that the company is authorized to conduct the auction of ODG and its stakeholders. According to Law360 (paywall) includes at least two of ODG's creditors JGB Ardmore Ltd. and GTC Law Group.
Among the items offered are 40 ODG-enhanced reality heads, various laboratory equipment, a fleet of MacBook Pros and Lenovo Thinkpads, and even office furniture.
Funny fact: The desk at my home office came from an auction at a closed hospital. I won the bid for $ 2. So if you want to have a fortified reality story, get lost, but note that inheritance costs a buyer's premium of 18% on all sales.
Although this auction only involves ODG's physical assets, Heritage has also handled auctions of patents and intellectual property rights. The company recently auctioned off Jaunts VR assets.
ODG met the end at about the same time as Blippar and Meta Company. Although Blippar rises as a Phoenix from its own ash as a new company with the same name, and Meta's ultimate fate is still uncertain, it appears that there will not be a redemption fee for ODG.
