wireless earplugs look very different than , but that’s just because they’re designed for people who are more active and need something to wear while exercising. They have built-in sweat and water resistance, so it fits a natural fit for fitness enthusiasts.
And yet, these colorful earbuds have much more in common thanthan it seems. For starters, they use the same H1 chip that makes things like easy pairing or always-enabled Hey Siri functionality possible.
Let’s go through how to pair your Powerbeats Pro, adjust settings, control playback and more.
Pairing Powerbeats Pro with your iPhone takes two seconds – literally. Unlock your iPhone and open the charging case. An animation appears on your phone; tap Connect.
The same process also works on an iPad or iPod Touch ($ 118 at Back Market) runs the latest version of iOS. As with Apple’s AirPods, Powerbeats Pro’s initial pairing syncs across all Apple devices with your iCloud account. So the two-second process only paired it with your iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple Watch ($ 269 at Back Market).
Pair with an Android phone
Of course, you can still use Powerbeats Pro with a device other than Apple. If you have not already paired the earbuds with another device, open the case next to your Android phone and go to the Bluetooth settings menu on your phone.
If you have already paired the earbuds with another device, place both earbuds in the case and then hold the button near the front of the case until the status light starts flashing white.
Thanks to Apple’s H1 chip used in Powerbeats Pro, the “Hey, Siri” earbuds support the alarm command out of the box. When using the earbuds, simply say “Hello, Siri” followed by a command to play music, check messages, or ask Siri questions. You do not have to wait for Siri to respond after the first wake-up call – just keep talking.
Turn off automatic ear detection
Powerbeats Pro automatically detects when they are inserted or removed from the ears. If you prefer not to pause the sound or start it automatically, you can deactivate it.
When using Powerbeats Pro, open the Settings app on any iOS device and select Bluetooth. Press “i” next to the Powerbeats Pro name> toggle automatic ear detection on Of place.
Rename your Beats
If you want to customize the name used in Bluetooth menus for your Powerbeats Pro, you can do so in the same Bluetooth settings. Go to all iOS devices settings > Bluetooth press “i” next to the Powerbeats Pro name> name. Enter your custom name and exit the settings app.
Both earbuds have volume controls and a button that can trigger Siri and control media playback. The Beats logo is a multifunction button, with different presses that trigger different controls. Here are the actions we have discovered so far:
- Long press: Triggers Siri
- Simple press: Play / pause
- Double tap: Skip tracks
- Triple Pressure: Go back one track
And yes, the physical controls also work on non-Apple devices.
Check battery life
Check the battery life of the earbuds and the charging case by placing the earbuds in the case and opening it next to your unlocked iPhone. A popup similar to the original pairing prompt will appear, describing the battery life of all three parts.
Another option is toand shows the battery life when actively using Powerbeats Pro.
Get a better fit
Inside the box, under the charging case, you will find an instruction booklet, a USB flash cable for charging the case and three more sets of tips for the earbuds. Each set has different sizes, which would help you find the best fit for your ears.
The powerbeats pros wrap around the back of the ear, and it’s also adjustable. The ear hook bends in all directions so you can position each earpiece for a tighter or looser fit based on your comfort.
The charging case can quickly charge your earplugs. A 5-minute charge gives you 1.5 hours of use, while a 15-minute charge gives you 4.5 hours of use. In total, Powerbeats Pro has a battery life of up to nine hours.
If you are curious: Charging the earbuds is done by placing them in the case. The right earpiece must go to the right side of the case and the left one goes to the left. When you place the earbuds in the case, magnets guide the earbuds to the right place. The charging case is charged via a flash port on the back of the case.
