Buying budget items can always be a throw-you never know how many corners they cut to offer such a low price. However, Redragon aims to deliver a mouse that has all the features you want without breaking the bank.

Here's what we like

  • High customization
  • Convenient to use
  • Color-accurate RGB lighting

And what we don't

  • May be too small for some users
  • The software can be difficult to understand

I bought the Redragon M711 Cobra earlier this year when I was looking for a cheap replacement for my previous mouse. I simply wanted a mouse that works; I did not care to get a top product. So when the M711 arrived at my door I was impressed by the number of options it has.

Tried and tested

The M711 uses the popular "shooter" style mouse design. It's fairly narrow (5 x 2.6 inches) and fairly short (1.6 inches), so anyone who prefers larger mice may find it uncomfortable to use. The mouse has a curved, soft feel that is nice to the touch. The lower part of the mouse is mostly made of smooth, hard plastic with lightly textured sides, giving the mouse some grip and a premium feel that you would not expect at this price point.

Weighing in at 7.2 ounces, the M711 is easy to move around and is ideal for games that require fast movements. The included USB cable is braided and feels durable. Since cables are usually not interchangeable, an included high quality always gives some peace of mind.

Two thumb buttons are on the left side of the mouse. The front thumb button is made of the same material as the mouse's upper part, while the rear thumb is made of textured plastic. This helps you identify which button you press without having to look down.

Three plastic buttons on the top of the mouse are used to switch between lighting and DPI profiles. The scroll wheel has a rubber finish and scrolls in steps, making it difficult to inadvertently scroll longer than intended – good for games with hot bars.

Full ahead

As mentioned earlier, the M711 has many additional features that you can fine-tune on Redragon's website. Actually, any kind of programming software is a luxury at this price point, so one as profound as this is especially appreciated.

The program allows full reprogramming of each button on the mouse to perform a wide range of actions. Whether you want the scroll wheel to act as a pause / play shortcut or thumb to perform a finely tuned macro, you can make these changes here. You can also completely control DPI with a range of up to 10,000, which frankly is too high for most, but having the option is nice regardless.

The M711 has full RGB lighting that you can customize too, but it is limited. Only three of the seven available lighting effects give you full control over the colors. Effects that have multiple colors cannot be changed at all, which can be frustrating if you want to use them but are not a fan of the regular rainbow pattern.

The program itself can be a little difficult to use because of its nice design. Once you have learned the way, however, it becomes an invaluable companion for the mouse.

Bang for Your Buck

With its ample customization options and comfortable design, the M711 feels like a mouse worth more than $ 20. It has served me well over the past six months and shows no signs of dying anytime soon. I can comfortably say that it is the best budget accessory I have ever used.
