Second stimulus control: What we know about the timeline now

Is there still a chance you can get one second stimulus control this year, and if so, which dates are the most likely? Although President Donald Trump – who currently being processed for COVID-19 – really want issue checks up to $ 1,200 before the election on november 3, the timeline is cloudy and the situation is changing rapidly.

Trump threw negotiations on an additional payment questioned on Tuesday by first interrupting the calls and then restarting them, but with independent bills in mind instead of a sweeping package to address major financial difficulties.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not interested in a stand-alone bill to issue stimulus checks, Bloomberg reported, which could further delay sending a check to approx. 160 million people are estimated to qualify.

Although a stand-alone bill approving more stimulus money passes, Trump’s irregular missives have introduced more uncertainty into the timeline. We consulted the calendar and mapped out four possible dates when the IRS could issue a check before and after the November 3 election. We update this story regularly.

When the tax authority could now send out the first checks

When and if a new stimulus check occurs, Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin has said it would take about a week to process the first payments. “I can get 50 million payments really fast. A lot of it in people’s direct accounts,” he said in August.

We have speculated on the potential dates based on the current situation in Washington. Note that not everyone receives a payment at the same time. First still waiting for their checks or even for collection payments. This provides a de facto order of priority which can lead to some getting their check days or even weeks earlier than others. We expect the IRS to adopt roughly the same system for sending out the second incentive check.

Direct deposit is fastest: People who already have theirs direct deposit information registered with the IRS or who registers it when and if registration reopens should be first in line to get their stimulus control. An electronic transfer of funds is faster and more efficient, which is why this group largely received its first payment faster.

Social insurance recipients: With the first incentive payment, many Social Security recipients who had direct deposit information with the federal government received checks during the first week, but not always the first day.

People getting paper checks: The IRS began sending these about a week later to people without direct deposit data.

EIP card receiver: Economic impact Payment card are prepaid visa cards that the IRS sent to about 4 million people beginning in mid-May. If the tax authority follows the same payment priority order, this group can start seeing their checks weeks after the first direct transfers have expired.

The last group: People who received checks after June are still waiting to receive their incentive payment or did not know they need to complete an extra step. Direct payments will continue until the end of 2020 for certain individuals who were not included in the previous groups. What is the longest you may have to wait for your check?

While we expect most people will get their money sooner, it may still take months for the IRS to send all checks if the first round is any indication. Six months after the first incentive payments expired, the federal government is still trying track millions of people which may be money owed.

And even with the experience of processing about 160 million payments in the IRS’s back pocket, some people would probably need to clear some barriers to get their money. Here are common barriers that kept up the first stimulus check.

There is hope that the IRS can speed up the delivery of a second check, if approved.
