Congress has not yet agreed on who will receive a second stimulus check, but it is expected that more will be included a second time.

Conversation about one new stimulus bill will probably not resume in the shadow of Republican National Convention, which goes through Thursday, and a drastic scaled-down GOP stimulus bill and new USPS funding begins to distract from the larger financial aid package. So what does it mean for your chances to second stimulus control for up to $ 1,200, and who can get it?

Both sides of the aisle say they are still pushing for a deal, but they still do not meet together.

“We are engaged in a debate not just about dollars and cents. It’s about values and common sense,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement over the weekend urging Republicans to “return to the negotiating table immediately.”

We do not yet know who will qualify for another incentive payment – you may not be eligible, even if you did. first stimulus control. On the plus side, there are indications that at least one demographic who does not qualify in the first round can get paid if there is a new round.

Read on to find out quickly who may be eligible for another stimulus check – and who may be excluded. This story is updated regularly.

Second stimulus control: Who may be eligible

Although we do not know for sure who will qualify for a new incentive payment until the legislation has been adopted, we can deduct first stimulus check eligibility requirements to get an idea of who may or may not get a second check, including income limits and number of dependencies.

Both Republicans and Democrats use adjusted gross income, or AGI, to determine the amount of payment for individuals and families, which would be $ 1200 for individuals and $ 2,400 for married couples.

Who may qualify for the next stimulus check

Qualifying group

Probably to be in the final bill

It is unlikely that it is in the final proposal

Individual

An AGI of less than $ 99,000 under all proposals

Head of the household

An AGI of less than $ 146,500, under all proposals

Couples filing joint income

An AGI under $ 198,000, under all proposals

Depending on all ages

No dependencies are restricted under the HEALS Act

Up to three relatives under the Heroes Act

Non-citizens who pay taxes

Proposed in the hero law, which was not taken up by the Senate

imprisoned

Exemption under the CARES Act

Debt child support

The CARES law excludes this group; Hero law would include them

American citizen living on board

Part of the CARES Act

Residing in the territory of the United States

According to the CARES Act: payments handled by the tax authority of each territory

More addicts may qualify for a second payment

The CARES Act took a narrow approach to defining an addiction and allowed a $ 500 payment only for a child aged 16 or younger in the family. HEALS and Heroes Acts both have a broader definition and allow all addicts you claim to qualify for a payment – college students, children over the age of 17, disabled relatives and taxpayer parents.

The democratic plan described in the Hero Law would cover $ 1,200 each, for up to three relatives, so a family of five could receive a maximum of $ 6,000. We do not think this is a likely outcome of the final bill, given that the Senate has not addressed it.

Like the CARES Act, the Republican plan outlined in the HEALS Act would provide $ 500 for each addiction, but does not specify a ceiling on the number of addictions.

Who did not get the first stimulus check

For the payments approved under the CARES Act, which became law in March, these groups are excluded:

  • Individual taxpayers with an AGI over $ 99,000
  • Managers for households with an AGI over $ 136,500
  • Married couple with an AGI over $ 198,000
  • Children over 16 and students under 24
  • Non-resident aliens, as defined by the US Government

When will Congress agree on requirements for stimulus control?

Right now, the timeline for discussions is up in the air. Talks between Republican and Democratic negotiators on the new stimulus package stalled, but the two sides have signaled their willingness to take up the debate. The Senate is paused until after Labor Day and the House after passes USPS funding has nothing scheduled. The chances of an agreement in August seem unlikely, but an agreement in September is now in the picture. Once the parties have reached an agreement, the stimulus proposal will not enter into force until the president has signed it into law.

Although we do not know for sure until the two sides agree on the next stimulus package, we have a good idea of when a check could be sent if a new bill passes.
