Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster is already full of skilled Smash fighters, with Nintendofor the latest (and perhaps latest) Iteration of the mega franchise.
But Nintendo is not finished with Ultimate's roster yet.
As part of a large patch that made sweeping changes to the current roster on January 29, Nintendo has also included the very first DLC sign: Piranha Plant, the well-known, toothy pottery. Adding DLC fighters to your Ultimate roster usually costs real world dollars but Piranha Plant is available to anyone who has purchased the game before January 31
However, there are a couple of hoops to jump through if you are willing to get the flower match for free. We have detailed the process of unlocking the free Piranha Plant DLC below – remember that you must have purchased a copy before January 31st.
Players who purchased a physical copy of the game must enter the option menu on their Nintendo Switch ($ 289 on Amazon) to register the game with Nintendo. Do this before January 31, and Nintendo sends email to the email code of the sign to the email address associated with your account.
Here is the complete process described by Nintendo:
If you buy the retailer, you must register your playing card with My Nintendo before noon. 11:59. NPT January 31, 2019. Here are the steps:
1) First create a My Nintendo account on my.nintendo.com if you haven't already done so.
2) Insert the game card into your Nintendo Switch console and select the game icon on the HOME menu.
3) Press + or – to enter the software options menu.
4) Select "My Nintendo Rewards Program" and then select "Earn Points (Playing Card Version Only)" to complete the process.
Players who bought the game digitally should be automatically registered, but still need to check their eShop email e-mail. This code will still work even if it comes after the deadline, but does not sit on it for a long time: Piranha Plant eShop codes will expire on June 30, 2019.
At the time of this writing, the deadline for registering your copy of the game is just two days away, but Nintendo has made a joint effort to report players, mentioned the deadline in social media, messages in the Nintendo eShop news channel, and also in pop-up prompts that appear when players start the game. If you can't find the code in your email, you can also reach out to Nintendo's customer support team for help.
Don't Have Smash Bros. Ultimate yet? Then you will probably miss the free version of Piranha Plant, but Nintendo says the sign will be available for purchase later this year.
