The best AC adapters and chargers for your iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max «iOS & iPhone :: Gadget hack

The iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max all have a positive coverage around their updated design, camera upgrades and 5G connectivity. However, a bit of negative pressure that you may have seen is about the charger. Specifically, there is a flash for USB-C cable in the box but no power adapter. That means you need a charger, and we have some great recommendations for you.

Apple’s reasoning for leaving a power adapter from the new iPhone 2020 models is that it is more environmentally friendly. Leaving the AC adapter and EarPods means less packaging material for the box, and that means less waste. It also means that more products can be delivered at the same time, which reduces carbon dioxide emissions in its “global logistics chain”

According to Apple, there are over two billion Apple-branded power adapters in the world, and you probably have one of them. But that number probably includes chargers for Macs, Apple Watches and other Apple products – not just iPhones. Because there is a flash to USB-C cable included, you can not take advantage of its faster charging speeds if you do not own a USB-C AC adapter.

If you have a newer MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, iMac Pro, Mac mini or Mac Pro, you can use the USB-C port on your computer to charge your iPhone from the end of 2020. If you have an iPad or Mac or have an iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max, you may already have a USB-C charging stone, such as Apple’s 18 W, 20 W, 29 W, 30 W, 61 W, 87 W or 96 W AC adapters – they work with your cable. And if you have a third-party USB-C AC adapter or a Qi wireless charging pad, it works too.

But if you do not have a wireless charger or any USB-C ports to boot your new iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max, you will need to get one. And that’s another revenue stream for Apple, but there are plenty of good third-party alternatives. Even if you have something USB-C compatible, you can consider choosing one of the options below. You may need fast charging features, either wired or wireless, or just a more portable option.

Option 1: Apple MagSafe Charger (the coolest)

Let’s just come out and say it: Apple’s MagSafe Charger is it Cool. Like MacBook chargers of the same name, MagSafe Chargers easily accelerate on and off the back of the device. You get the convenience of wireless charging, but with a more secure connection. No more waking up to see that your iPhone was not charged overnight because you left it only a hair shy of the sweet spot.

What’s even better is that the MagSafe charger charges your new iPhone quickly by up to 15 watts. Compare that to all Qi wireless chargers on the market that, despite the number announced, maximize charging speeds of 7.5 watts for iPhone models. However, it does not come with an AC adapter in itself, so you will need to purchase the MagSafe Charger and Apple’s 20-watt USB-C AC adapter (see next option).

Apple’s MagSafe Charger is currently the only one on the market. As with all Apple accessories, however, there are third-party options. If you do not want to drop $ 39 on a MagSafe charger, watch out for cheaper choices along the line.

Option 2: Apple 20W USB-C AC Adapter (the fastest)

An advantage of USB-C is fast charging. We talk 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes. The thing is, any old AC adapter does not work here – you need something with enough output to really charge your iPhone quickly.

Before October 2020, the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max came with an 18-watt USB-C power adapter, which was very powerful for fast charging. So if you have one of them, you’re fine. If not, the company raised its fast-charging USB-C iPhone power adapter to 20 watts. How can you say no to two more watts?

If you want the MagSafe charger above, you will also have to pay to connect the MagSafe to an electrical outlet, but other USB-C AC adapters may work.

Option 3: Anchor Nano 20W USB-C charger (smaller form factor)

If you’re looking for something other than Apple’s 20 watt AC adapter, consider an Anchor charger. The Nano AC adapter offers the same 20-watt output power as Apple’s but in a smaller form factor. Apple has not released the official specifications for its 20-watt model, but if we look at its 18-watt alternative, we see that Ankers is much more compact at 1.81 inches by 1.08 inches by 1.08 inches compared to Apple’s 2.64 inches by 1.26 inches by 3.27 inches.

Option 4: AmazonBasics 30W USB-C Charger (High Efficiency)

The above charger will power your new iPhone without any problems, but what about the other USB-C devices in your life? If you want something that can even charge a MacBook Air, you may want to look at Amazon’s 30-watt USB-C charger.

Amazon’s adapter gives you another ten watts for only $ 6.99 more than Apple’s charger. That $ 6.99 probably won’t charge your iPhone faster, but it will charge something like a laptop much faster. Sure, you can connect a 20-watt charger to your MacBook Pro, but it does take one long time to reach 100% effect.

Nor are we saying that 30 watts is perfect for a MacBook, but if you’re looking for an affordable option for charging most USB-C devices, this may be your best bet. Amazon also sells a 65-watt model.

Option 5: AI Aikenuo 48W 4-port quick charger (for versatility)

You may not just be looking for a USB-C AC adapter that works well with all your devices. You may be looking for something that charges all your devices immediately. Then think of this four-port charger from AI Aikenuo, which offers two USB-C ports and two USB-A 3.0 ports.

Charge your iPhone and MacBook with the USB-C ports and an Apple Watch and Bluetooth mouse with the other ports, all of which can get up to 18 watts each. It’s the perfect option for anyone who has a mix of old and new charging technology in their lives (which probably most of us are).

Option 6: Anchor PowerWave stand (for upright charging)

If you are looking for a traditional Qi wireless charger, you know you have a couple of styles to choose from. The first is a wireless charging stand – a stand allows you to look comfortably on your iPhone while it is charging. This is a good option if you are at your desk and want to see updates on your iPhone or if you are someone who likes to fall asleep and watch videos.

Belkin actually comes out with one that works with MagSafe and can charge your Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time. Until it appears, we recommend this popular PowerWave wireless charging stand from Anker. It’s only 7.5 watts, but that’s the maximum that an iPhone can charge with a supported Qi charger. Unlike most other PowerWave chargers, this model comes with an AC adapter, so you do not have to worry about getting one of them separately.

Option 7: Yootech wireless charging pad (for flat charging)

The second option for Qi wireless chargers is a pad. Wireless charging tablets are good for anyone who wants to pick up their iPhone next to them on the couch or by the bed. They are not very practical for watching content, but they offer the ability to interact with your iPhone because it is effectively on the table.

Our recommendation? This charger from Yootech. It is available in three different colors (black / black, black / blue, black / red), although you will not see the color much with your iPhone resting on top of it! It also supports the faster charging speeds of 7.5 watts, which is a must for any wireless charger, or it’s just not worth it. However, it does not come with a power adapter, so you will need one of the USB-C AC adapters above to connect it.
