How to choose a drone

The right drone for you depends on what you want to do. A cheap drone – especially those under $ 250 or so – will offer the least features and may lack some functionality that may not make it the best solution for you.

In general (and this is not a hard and fast rule) a cheap drone usually has 720p video and a relatively low frame rate, usually 30 frames per second. While this will be good for most of us, the video will lack the cinematic smoothness. By stepping up to an intermediate register (usually in the range of $ 250 to $ 750), you get 1080p video and often at 60 fps, resulting in higher quality video.

Most modern high-end drones offer 4K video, but you will probably need to spend north of $ 1000 to get 4K 60fps video. If video quality is an important issue, expect to pay more.

A cheap drone also lacks other useful features, including tracking features, and video and drone stabilization. Under perfect flight conditions, this will not be a problem. But you want these features if you plan to fly under different conditions or let it work without much user input.

We have also noticed that many cheaper drones either lack obstacles or are not as good as more expensive drones. If you fly in wide open spaces, you will not have much problem here. However, if you plan to fly in areas with nearby obstacles, you want to make sure that the drone you choose has sufficient obstacles to avoid obstacles.

Does drones make noise?

All drones will make some noise. Most people describe it as a buzzing sound, much like a bee. The propellers spin at extremely high speeds, and that is what causes that noise. It is most noticeable when you are closest to the drone, but you will hardly hear it once it is higher in the air.

Can you fly a drone at night?

Most drones can fly at night, although we would not recommend doing so until you have had a lot of experience. We recommend that you keep your drone sight when you fly at night – and drones that can work at night include lights so that they can be seen during night flight.

Remember that most drones do not have night vision capabilities, so the video you take during night flight will only be illuminated by available ambient lighting, such as moonlight, street lighting, and so on.

Can you fly a drone in the rain?

Most drone manufacturers recommend that you do not fly your drone in the rain. Most cheap drones are neither waterproof nor waterproof, so even small amounts of water can damage your drone, especially the engine and battery. The moisture causes a short circuit, which causes your drone to stop working with little or no warning. Thus, as a general rule, do not fly your drone in rain, fog or overly humid conditions.

If you are stuck in these conditions, land as soon as possible and get your drone somewhere dry, disconnect the battery and let it dry. You may also want to shake the drone itself to get water out of the inner house and let it dry as well. Use similar techniques to wipe out a wet phone to wipe out your drone, and the first time you fly it afterwards, take some time to test the drone at low altitude before flying it normally again.

Do drones need to be registered?

The Federal Aviation Administration requires you to register your drone based on how you plan to fly it and mark your drone with your specified registration number. All drones weighing more than 250 grams and less than 55 kg must be registered, covering almost all drones currently sold on the market. This registration must be renewed every three years.

You must also have proof of registration at all times when flying, and it is prohibited to fly for commercial purposes under the license terms. Drone flying is only permitted below 400 feet in altitude and class “G” or uncontrolled airspace. It is your responsibility to follow these rules.

Some states require drone pilots to follow additional rules, so be sure to check the laws of the state you are flying in before taking off.

Do you need a license to fly a drone?

Currently, there is no license required for recreational or hobby drone pilots. However, flights for commercial purposes may require additional certifications.
