  • Price: $ 46

A set of TaoTronics Wireless Earbuds and their cases.
    TaoTronics

Genuine wireless earplugs are expensive. Samsung Galaxy Buds is $ 130, Apple Airpods starts at $ 160, and some sets go for more. If you temper expectations, TaoTronics offers $ 46 wireless earplugs that work much better than the price suggests.

    Here's what we like

    • Less than $ 50
    • Superb Bluetooth Range
    • Works in dual mode or single mode with both ears
    • Case doubles as a USB charger

    And what we don't do

    • The set is harder than the competition
    • Three hours driving time is a bit short.
    • The little bit feels a little fragile, and the button can hold
    • The charge indicator lights are confusing

Genuine wireless earplugs are quite frankly a luxury item. You can live without them until you try them, then you don't want to live without them. The biggest problem is usually the price. You can expect to spend between $ 130 and $ 300 on good earplugs, and even our recommended budget pair, Anker Soundcore Liberty Air, will put you back $ 80.

If you look a bit, look at TaoTronics Wireless Earplugs. You may not have heard of the brand, but the hardware is solid – at least if you can accept some trade-offs for the low price.

The truth is told, the pictures you see in the rest of the article are not by a review unit sent to us by the company. I bought a couple for my wife, and she loved them so much she turned and bought a couple for me. It's a double confidence right outside the gate, so let's have a look at what we both loved (and didn't love) about the affordable little earplugs.

The overall design is not much to look at [19659031] A top view of TaoTronics Earbuds and their cases. ” width=”1600″ height=”900″ src=”/pagespeed_static/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif” onload=”pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);” onerror=”this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);”/>
Overall, the design is quite generic. Josh Hendrickson

To be completely blunt, the design of the TaoTronics case and earplugs is incredibly generic. The case is about the size of one and a half Altoid cans stacked and shaped like a rectangle with the corners cut off. It is thin enough to fit in jeans pockets, but thick enough you know that there are all the time.

The lid is semi-transparent plastic that feels a little fragile, while the bottom is a little harder and feels like it can take a little abuse. The earplugs themselves can be confused for a number of really wireless earplugs, and that's good. If your goal is a unique fashion accessory, you need to spend more on the look. But low prices mean trade-offs, and it is more important that these buds work well than what they look like.

A little difficult to set up, but easy to use

The earplugs can be used in single position (left or right) or dual mode. Josh Hendrickson

TaoTronics assembles its wireless earplugs with a striking feature. Both buttons are Bluetooth capable. Often with really wireless earplugs, only one bid is connected to Bluetooth, and the other is connected to the first budget. It usually means that you can only listen with the right ear, but not just the left.

However, this set of earplugs works in single-tube mode for each side. But that makes the installation tricky. I found in my test that the best thing is to take an earplug out of the case, pair it, put it back in the case (which turns it off), then remove the second earplug from the bag and disconnect it. From them on, you can either use only left or right bids, or both. When inserting the second earplug, wait for a moment when the earplugs connect.

When you have heard the earplugs it is just as easy to remove them from the bag and wait to connect. You can start in single-tube mode, or switch to it by removing the second earplug. Likewise, switching from single headphones to dual earbuds is easy and takes the other out and wears it. The company contained button controls, and they work well enough when you have memorized them. Helpful, play and pause is a single point to the respective left and right ear, and that's all I usually use.

With previous cheap Bluetooth headphones I've owned, the range has always been a problem. I would leave a room or two away from my tablet and lose the signal. But with these earplugs, I was surprised that I could move four and five rooms away, and even move down a floor with no problems.

    Case displaces short battery life

This full size USB A port is a bonus feature. Josh Hendrickson

Let's Tear Off Belt Support: The battery life of these earplugs is about three hours. I have sometimes printed three and a half hours of them. It is short compared to other products in this category, but the case is the fact. Just like all other wireless earplugs out there, load these earplugs by plugging them in your bag. But what says TaoTronic's entry is the large number of fees you will get out of the case.

With a 3350mAh battery, the company promises that you will be able to charge the earbuds a lot 40 times before you need to plug the case back. I can't confirm that number, and that's because for just under a month's use I still haven't had to upload my case. And I use them between one and three hours about five days a week. The upload time is fast; You get 40 percent in 15 minutes and a full charge in one hour.

TaoTronics also hit a bonus feature in the charging bag. On the left side you will find a full size USB-A port. With the correct cables, you can use the bag for a portable battery and charge your phone.

Another feature that I have appreciated is the incredibly strong magnets TaoTronics embedded in the earmuffs. When you put your earplugs in the case, they are practically sucked into the holes, and this causes a breeze to be charged. It may sound a little, but I have an additional $ 500 pair of wireless earplugs that do not have these magnets, and I found myself unable to seat them properly and charge on the first try. It's an extremely frustrating experience that makes me appreciate this $ 46 set more.

Sound Lacks Bass, but is otherwise good

You shouldn't expect a below $ 50 set of headphones of any kind to accompany a $ 150 equivalent, and that's true here as well. No one will give any awards to TaoTronics for great sound, but honestly it is enough. You might miss the throbbing base, but more expensive it is clear that the sound is clear and music is recognizable.

If you prefer to buy "reasonably priced headphones" and can't imagine embarking on extra money for any high end, then you probably won't notice any difference in sound quality. If you absolutely need trumped bass or perfectly balanced headphones that give you a complete sound picture, you will be disappointed with what you hear.

    It's not without flaws, despite

Closed case with three indicator lights
"There are four lights!" – Not Captain Picard looking at this case. Josh Hendrickson

For all the good things I can say, this product has some flaws. As I mentioned earlier, the initial configuration is a little more complicated than other wireless earplugs, and the driving time is a bit short, but that's not where the problems stop.

Opening the case means pressing a small button to unlock the lid. The button starts knitting, which means that the thing does not want to stay still if I do not fool with it.

Nor can I find out the remaining charge indicator lights on the bag. Most products have four LEDs, each representing 25% of a fee. This case has three. For now I have left to load it if I ever come down to a light. I say "if I ever", because I'm still two after all the time.

The included charging cable is laughable card in just three inches, but a micro USB cable will work, so it's an easy matter to overcome. And TaoTronics contains only three sizes of ear tips. Generic tips should work, so when I discovered that the smallest tips didn't suit me well (I have small ears), I switched to a few tips I own that I feel comfortable. If you are often less than satisfied with the earpiece tip included in earplugs, check out our guide to the best replacement tips.

At less than $ 50 There is little to lose

The lid in this case does not want to snap anymore. Josh Hendrickson

The above flaws can be a bigger deal if you spent a lot of money, but they are forgiving in a product that is so low. And some of the problems are easy to overcome, like ear tips and charging cable. The sticky lid ever frustrates me so little, and I worry that a good drop can break the lid, but it has not happened yet and thanks to strong magnets holding the earplugs in place, the lid does not feel necessary. It may cause the pocket to wear a little uncomfortable, but I wouldn't worry about losing the earplugs.

If you wanted to try really wireless headphones, but found the price scary, you should try the TaoTronics entry. Even if you finally decide that you need something that sounds better, for less $ 50, you probably know if it's worth paying more to have good sound without the wires.
