When does open gym and malls again? How about sports arenas, cinemas, hair stylists and concert venues ? The results may vary greatly depending on where you live, but one element that is true so far across the world is that coronavirus lock restrictions will not be lifted at once.

Countries and states adopt a phased strategy that loosens certain rules while keeping others. For example, as of mid-March, more than 40 states put tens of millions of US residents under some form of lockout order that extended over self-quarantine and home directives, social distance and face mask requirements . As the curve for daily cases begins to flatten in some parts of the country, the government and the Public Health Ombudsman are working on plans for how to restore society and the US economy to "normal."

Government officials throughout the United States and the world include the gradual opening, from the White House to medical experts at Johns Hopkins University. This is how the various reopening phases for your area can look as society slowly opens up.

Phase 1 is happening now: Slowly spreading the corona virus

In many parts of the United States, this is the phase many residents live through, with social distance and home orders keeping most indoors except for essential trips to the store and leisure walks.

Non-essential companies and activities such as shopping malls, theaters, sporting events, hairdressers, hairdressers and casinos have been shut down. Companies that provide essential health and safety services have remained open, including grocery and hardware stores, pharmacies, hospitals, medical centers, banks and gas stations.

Restaurants – and pubs and bars in some states like New Jersey – are considered important, but require that you pick up your order or have it delivered instead of sitting down to eat. [19659007] While outdoors, residents are required to avoid large groups, exercise social distance, and in some regions have mandated to wear protective face masks .

Phase 2: Lockdown begins to lift

This is the next phase that many states are moving to. The US government, which works with public health advisers, suggests quarantine restrictions may begin to be eased after:

  • The number of daily cases is steadily declining for at least two weeks.
  • Hospitals and medical centers can work outside the crisis to provide care for all COVID-19 patients.
  • Coronavirus testing becomes widely available to health care workers who are at risk.

California has loosened the restrictions on construction and some DMV operations, for example, and Georgia has already told companies that they can open again.

Some states – including New York – could wait for more protective measures, such as comprehensive testing for anyone with symptoms to fall into place. Contact tracking can be another great component for some states, to quickly find people who have come in contact with an infected person and self-isolate.

States are likely to open companies that are considered low risk of spreading the virus, such as garden supply stores and construction sites and manufacturing sites. To return to work and school, expect physical distance requirements indoors (for example, keeping desks 6 feet apart) and temperature controls as part of the requirement to enter a building or classroom.

The most vulnerable people, including older people and those with underlying conditions, may still require on-site protection.

Phase 3: Opening more companies and activities

With decreasing daily cases and more extensive testing state leaders will try to open higher risk companies where customers and workers are in close contact for longer periods of time. time, such as nail shops and hair salons. Gyms, cinemas and churches can also open in this phase.

When states gently relax the restrictions, contact tracking will play an increasingly important role in monitoring the spread of the virus. Contact tracking is a widely accepted tool used by public health officials to identify infected individuals and anyone who may have come near the person who tested positive for the disease. To identify possible new cases of COVID-19, health agents look to our mobile phones to create a list of contacts.

Phase 4: Flock immunity or a vaccine will help restore normalcy

The goal of the first three phases is to get us to a point of universal resistance to the coronavirus. One way to achieve it is called herd immunity which means that 60% or more of the population has been exposed to the coronavirus and has received some degree of immunity from it . The second approach is through a vaccine, which is still believed to be a year or more away . Once we have received a safe and effective vaccine and therapeutics to protect the population from infection, the authorities will be able to lift social distance systems completely and gain a new norm.

How about travel bans and restrictions?

Reopening public transport and other methods of mass transportation, such as air and train travel for non-essential travel, is an important but potentially higher risk step, as passengers are often in close contact for a long time. Domestic air travel already comes with a set of restrictions but international holidays are not currently encouraged . And in some cases they are not even possible, because the airlines have cut routes.

States will also provide relaxing interstate travel: Some states, including Hawaii and Rhode Island, require anyone arriving in the state – resident, visitor or tourist – to self-quarantine for 14 days.

When your country opens, you will still take steps to make sure you stay safe.
