The most common Fitbit problems and how to fix them



Fitness trackers are extremely useful in our everyday lives. They can follow our number of steps, heart rate, sleep quality, number of calories burned, and they can even help guide users away from serious problems like cardiovascular disease. But what happens when your fitness tracker stops working? It happens more often than you would expect, especially considering how often coaches are usually used from day to day.

If you happen to own a Fitbit device, and I'm sure many of you do, you may have experienced a problem or two throughout the life of the device. If you have problems with your Fitbit device, we are here to help. Here are some of the most common Fitbit problems and how to fix them.

Problem # 1
– Synchronize Problems

Fitbit trackers are synchronized with Android devices via Bluetooth, and unfortunately the technology can sometimes be unreliable. If you have trouble synchronizing data from your Fitbit to your Android device, your solution may be in the Fitbit app setup menu.

Potential Solutions:

  • Make sure the Fitbit app is installed on your Android phone. You also need to make sure your phone has Bluetooth enabled ( Settings> Bluetooth> On ) and that you are only trying to connect your Fitbit to a Bluetooth enabled phone or tablet. Potential Solutions:

  • First of all, make sure you are within 20 feet of your mobile device.   • If all else fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app.

Problem # 3 – Fitbit not loading properly

No one likes to wake up in the morning to a dead Fitbit. If your Fitbit tracker does not charge properly, you may need to replace the charging cables or clean the unit.

Potential Solutions:

  • Make sure your Fitbit tracker and charging cable are clean. Dust and debris can accumulate over time, which can prevent the device from charging properly. Here's a guide on how to clean your tracker.
  • Try connecting your Fitbit charger to another USB port. Using a UL certified wall charger will work, as well as a simple USB input on a computer. Your Fitbit may not be charged properly if you use a USB hub.

Most of the latest Fitbit devices have a feature called Quick View, which allows you to simply raise your wrist to wake the display. Some of these devices – such as Alta, Charge 2, and Charge HR – also come with cracked screens, meaning you can't wrap menus as you would on a standard touchscreen. Instead, it is just a simple button near or in the display to sweep through your daily statistics.

Unfortunately, many Fitbit users have claimed that it is too slow to get problems with both the quick view and the button press. If you are in this boat, the answer may be in your Fitbit app's setup menu.

Potential solutions for quick viewing problems:

  • In order for Quick View to work properly, your Fitbit device needs to know which wrist it is worn on, and if you are right-handed or left-handed. To check if this is the problem, open the Fitbit app, select Account select your tracker and make sure the Quick View switch is turned to on .

  • Then try to update the device again. If it still doesn't work, try restarting your mobile device.
  • If you try to sync your Fitbit with your mobile device, try removing the Bluetooth connection from your mobile device.
    • To do this, navigate to Bluetooth in your mobile device's setup menu, find your Fitbit device, and then select Forget .
  • You may need to try to update your Fitbit via another mobile device or computer. If you want to do this on a computer, go to this link, log in to your Fitbit account and try updating your firmware.
  • If you still can't update, try removing the Fitbit device from your Fitbit account.

    • If you use the Fitbit website, log in to your account, click the gear icon at the top right of the screen, then click Settings> Devices> [Fitbit device]> Delete this device from your account .

Problem # 6 – Fitbit's silent alarm stopped working

Most Fitbit devices have the ability to wake you up in the morning via silent alarms. Unfortunately, if your silent alarm doesn't work, there aren't many options. You must check your Fitbits vibration engine using the steps below. If this does not work, Fitbit recommends contacting customer support.

Potential Solutions:

  • First of all, make sure you have a silent alarm on your Fitbit device. To do this, open the Fitbit app, select Account select your Fitbit device, and then select Quiet Alarm .

  • Fitbit Charge 3 – Simply press the side button on charge 3 while it is switched on. Your tracker should vibrate.
  • Fitbit Versa – On your Versa, swipe over and select the Timer option. Press Stopwatch and then press the Play icon. Your tracker should vibrate.
  • Fitbit Ionic – From the main clock face, press and hold the button on the left side. Your tracker should vibrate twice.

  • Fitbit Ace – Cut your Ace to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Press the button on the charging cable to check vibrations.
  • Fitbit Blaze – Move to the screen Timer then press it. Touch Stopwatch and then press play icon. Your tracker should vibrate.
  • Fitbit Alta – Cut your Alta to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Press the button on the charging cable to check vibrations.
  • Fitbit Alta HR – Cut your Alta HR to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Press the button on the charging cable to check vibrations.
  • Fitbit Charge 2 – Cut charge 2 to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Your tracker should vibrate when connecting the cable.
  • Fitbit Charge and Charge HR – Press and hold the side button on your tracker to enter training mode. Your tracker should vibrate.
  • Fitbit Flex 2 – Connect your charging cable to the USB port on your computer and remove the tracker from the bracelet. Press the groove in the charging cable. Your tracker should vibrate.
  • Fitbit Flex – Press beneath the line of the lamp on your Flex unit.
  • Fitbit Surge – Connect your Surge to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Your tracker should vibrate.
  • Fitbit One – Cut your One into the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Your tracker should vibrate.

Problem # 7 – Fitbit bandwidth

Fitbit devices are quite high quality technical parts, but they are definitely not invincible. If your Fitbit band starts to break, you need to take advantage of the company's warranty policy.

It is worth noting that if you own a Fitbit Versa, Ionic, Ace, Alta HR, Alta, Blaze, Charge 2, or Flex 2 and are out of warranty, you can simply buy a new band without replacing whole unit. If you have an older tracker like Charge HR, Surge or Flex, follow the steps below to have it replaced.

  • Fitbit also offers a one-year limited warranty to the original purchaser of the product, which guarantees that the Fitbit product is free from defects in materials and workmanship during normal use. How to restart your Fitbit device

  • Fitbit Charge 3 – When your Fitbit Charge 3 is turned on, hold the side button for eight seconds. Your tracker should be restarted after seeing a smile icon and feeling a vibration.
  • Fitbit Versa – Hold down the left and lower right buttons simultaneously until you see the Fitbit logo. Release the buttons and your tracker restarts.
  • Fitbit Ionic – Press and hold the left and lower right buttons simultaneously until you see the Fitbit logo. Release the buttons and your tracker restarts.
  • Fitbit Ace – Cut your Ace to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. Press the button on the charging cable three times within eight seconds. A few seconds later you see the Fitbit logo on the device screen.
  • Fitbit Alta HR – Take your Alta HR to the charging cable and make sure the cable is connected to a USB port on your computer. . Press the button on the charging cable three times within eight seconds. A few seconds later you see the Fitbit logo on the device screen.
  • Fitbit Blaze – Press and hold the left and lower right buttons (Back and Select) simultaneously until you see the Fitbit logo. . Release the buttons and your tracker restarts.
