There are several ways to lock your Windows 10 computer such as the Windows key + L keyboard shortcut. If your Windows key is broken but you still want a quick way to lock your computer, create a desktop shortcut.
First right-click anywhere on the desktop and a menu will appear. Hold the mouse pointer over the “New”; option and then select “Shortcut” in the submenu.
Once selected, the “Create Shortcut” window will appear. Type or paste the following command in the “Type the location of the item” text box, and then click “Next.”
Note: You can lock your Windows 10 computer with the command prompt or Run using the same command.
Then give your new shortcut a name. Enter a name that complements its functions so that you (or anyone else who uses the computer) knows exactly what it is doing. Enter the name in the box under “Enter a name for this shortcut.” When you are done, click “Done”.
The desktop shortcut is now displayed on the desktop.
To lock your Windows 10 computer, double-click this desktop icon.
No matter how you decide to lock your computer, it is always recommended that you do so – even if you only walk away for a minute or two.
