To disable Bing in the Windows 10 Start menu

How to disable Bing Integration in the Start menu

You must edit the Windows registry to disable web searches in the Start menu.

Here is our default warning: The Registry Editor is a powerful tool and improper modification can make the system unstable or even useless. This is a simple change and if you follow the instructions you should go well. But if you have never used it before, you can read about how to use the registry. We always recommend backing up your registry (and your computer) before making any changes.

To start, open the Registry Editor by pressing Start and typing "regedit". Double-click the "Registry Editor" shortcut directory that appears (or press Enter) and click Yes for the UAC prompt.

In the registry, use the left sidebar to navigate to the following key:

  HKEY_CURRENT_USER on the Search icon and select New> DWORD value (32-bit). Name the new value  BingSearchEnabled .

Double-click the new BingSearchEnabled value to open its properties dialog. The number in the "Value data" box should already be 0-just make sure it is still 0. Click OK to continue.

] Below BingSearchEnabled you should see CortanaConsent . Double-click this value to open the Properties dialog box. Change its "value data" field to "0".

You can close the registry now. There is no need to restart your machine, as the change will take effect immediately. If you search in your start menu, you should now only see local results.

If you want web search results back, all you have to do is open the registry and change BingSearchEnabled and CortanaConsent values ​​back to 1.

How to disable Bing Integration in the start menu, the old way

Update : Microsoft removed this simple graphical option from the Windows 10 year anniversary. Even if you turn off Cortana with a registry or group policy tweak, Windows 10 will not shut down web searches in the Start menu. However, you can do the Start menu search Google instead of Bing if you want.

Fortunately, Bing is very easy to disable, and you just need to get to the screenshot for search in Cortana. The easiest way to do this is to write "cortana settings" in the Start menu and select "Cortana & Search Settings".
