Another week, another augmented reality mobile game. Like Pokemon GO, PAC-MAN GEO trying to take advantage of a classic game for a new mobile experience. This one is building Pac Man “Labyrinths”; out of real streets, so players can test the yellow pizza slice around real places.
The game can be pre-registered on Android and has a placeholder list on iOS. According to a press release from BANDAI-NAMCO, it will be available in “170 countries” starting sometime this month. The app list says that players can use real streets from “New York, Paris and Tokyo”, and the screenshots seem to indicate that you will be able to create a custom map based on your real location. The game uses the Google Maps API to make its scenes.
Revenue generation for PAC-MAN GEO has not been nailed down, but at this point it is safe to assume that it will be a free game with in-app purchases. Whether that game will be fair, or whether these purchases will be reasonable, remains to be seen.
