On Tuesday at Google I / O, the company announced that a system-wide dark mode will come to your phone with the Android Q release later this year. Google once again adorned whether the benefits of a dark mode or theme are dual: Less strain on your eyes in weak environments and darker interfaces use less of the phone's battery.
Google has flirted with an officially dark theme for the past few years and even included a semi-baked version in Android Pie 9.0. But with Android Q, the company provides developers with the right tools to support a full-featured dark theme. In the absence of a true dark mode on Android, third-party developers have taken it upon themselves to add dark modes to their respective apps. With the launch of Android Q still a few months away, we found a handful of apps that you can use right now that look good.
Apps with a dark mode that looks amazing
The official app Android Messages has many features, but one of the most underrated is dark mode support. You do not have to dig through the settings to turn it on either. Open the app, tap the three-point icon in the upper right corner and activate the dark mode.
The Dark Light mode light is found by opening the side panel and then selecting Settings > Theme > Night . It's a nice touch, especially if you spend a lot of time reading various news and articles.

Popular podcast app PocketCasts also has a dark mode. Activate the dark mode by going to the Profile tab and then the Settings icon in the upper right corner. Then go to Appearance > Theme . Choose from Dark or Extra Dark.
Google Maps has no particularly dark mode throughout the app. Instead, there is a night mode used in night navigation that you can force the app to use all the time. Slide the menu to the left of the screen and go to Settings> Navigation Settings . Scroll down and select Night under the Color Chart for Map View section.
The official Reddit app uses some different dark mode settings. You can activate the night theme all the time in settings under Theme or you can let the app decide when to darken based on time of day or when the phone is in battery saving mode.
The YouTube app looks much better when dark mode is enabled.by opening the app and then pressing the profile icon> Settings > General > Dark theme .
Spend a lot of time in Slack? Then, yes, you want to use its dark mode. You can find the switch in the app's settings by tapping the three-point icon in the upper right corner and then Settings. Scroll down and find dark mode. Press it and then select Continue.
There are many more apps that support a dark mode or night theme. If you really want to go all-in in the dark mode, the best thing to see in each app's settings section is (appearance or display subordinates is a good place to see) to change the app's look.
System Level Dark Mode
If your phone is running Android Pie, you can enable the built-in dark mode. The process will vary depending on who made your device and some adaptation to Android, but for the most part, the following should work: Settings > View > Advanced ]> Unit theme > Dark . When it's turned on, check out the Quick Setup panel or your Google feed – both should now be dark.
When Samsung rolled out its One UI interface update for Galaxy phones, which includes Android Pie, a night mode (instead of the dark theme entry) was added. Enable Night mode . Settings > View > Night mode .
Samsung's night mode takes a more aggressive setting to darken the interface. For example, the Settings app goes almost immediately from a white background to black. The quick setting panel and individual messages also become dark. You will also find dark versions of almost all pre-installed Samsung apps when dark mode is enabled.
