When you go to an extended TV viewing session on Netflix, you are sometimes interrupted by a question asking if you are still watching the show. Here’s why Netflix keeps bugging you.
“Are you still watching?”;
Netflix, like other streaming services, seems designed for binging TV shows. For most titles on the platform, all episodes of a given season are available at once. Netflix automatically plays the next episode of a show when the current one is finished. They also allow users to skip initial scenes for each show so you can get to the content faster.
However, there is a feature in the service that seems to inhibit binging. After watching a few episodes of a show, the video suddenly pauses within the first few minutes of an episode. You will then be asked: “Are you still watching?” To continue the section, select “Continue watching.” Otherwise, Netflix will stop your viewing session.
This popup will appear if you have played two consecutive episodes without interacting with the controls. The question appears two minutes into the next section. However, if you have interacted with the video at all, such as pausing, skipping, or hovering over the window, this prompt will not appear.
Why Netflix asks
According to Netflix, the Netflix app asks this question to prevent users from wasting bandwidth by holding a show that plays that they are not watching. This is especially true if you watch Netflix on your phone via mobile data. Every megabyte is valuable, given that network providers impose strict data limits and can charge exorbitant prices for data used on top of your phone plan.
Of course, this also saves Netflix bandwidth – if you fall asleep or just leave the room while watching Netflix, it automatically stops playing rather than streaming until you stop.
Netflix also says that this helps you not to lose your position in a series when you resume it. If you fall asleep in the middle of your binging session, you may wake up and find that several hours of episodes have been played since you stopped watching. It will be hard for you to remember when you quit.
For some Netflix users, however, this feature is more annoying than it is useful. If you mostly watch TV shows in the middle of the day, you are much less likely to be distracted in the middle of your binging session. It is no surprise that many are looking for a way to turn it off.
Turn off Autoplay
The simplest solution is to turn off autoplay completely, so the following sections no longer begin without your interaction. This will not only prevent the prompt from appearing completely, but it will also keep you awake and focused on the show you are watching.
To disable autoplay, open your account from a web browser. Select your “Profile” icon at the top right and go to “Manage Profiles.” From here, click on the profile you use and you will come to your profile settings page.
Uncheck the box at the bottom that says “Automatically play the next episode in a series for all devices.” This change will take effect automatically on all devices where your Netflix account is logged in.
Note that this setting varies depending on the profile. To change the Autoplay settings for all profiles in your account, you must configure them one by one.

Disable the prompt
Watching Netflix through the desktop site is one way to disable the message by using a browser extension called “Never Ending Netflix” for Google Chrome.
Once the extension has been installed, open its options menu and activate the “Do not ask” setting Do you still see? “.
In addition to not displaying the screen, Never Ending Netflix has several useful features to enhance your viewing experience. You can select a switch to skip all title sequences, view end credits, and stop commercials from playing on the menu screen. You can access all these options from the add-on menu.
Unfortunately, there is no way to do anything for Netflix on other devices, such as a smart TV, Roku or game console. For these devices, you must disable autoplay or continuously interact with the screen.
