Next time you use yours iPhone To place a food order, rent a bike at a kiosk or set up a smart light bulb, you may not need to set up another app on your phone. iOS 14’s new app clipping feature is a thumbnail version of the entire app that saves time and storage space.

Appklipp offers a subset of functions that you can find in a given application. Without downloading or installing an entire app, you can still only use a “piece” of it for a basic and one-time purpose, such as renting a touring bike in a new city, booking a book at your favorite restaurant, or setting up a new one. robot vacuum cleaner, all without having to install a new app every time.

Normally, you would only be able to access these features after downloading the entire app and in many cases creating a new account or logging in. App clips are similar Android quick apps, which, although they were announced many years ago, never really went on.

Let’s take a closer look at what app clips are, how to add them and what all they can do.

iPhone X gets new camera tricks with Apple Clips

The current process of doing something like unlocking an electric scooter requires, for example, that you find the company’s app in the App Store, download it, create an account, and then enter your payment information. It is a process that takes several minutes and is not very convenient.

With an app clip, however, you only need to scan a QR code or tap your phone against an NFC tag on the scooter you want to rent, for example to show a small card on your iPhone.

Instead of providing access to the entire app’s functionality, such as a map of where all available scooters are located, the App Clip will only contain what is needed to unlock and rent the scooter. It will use Apple Pay to verify and secure your payment.

Are there any app clips I can check out?

yes! We have not found many of them yet, but Panera Bread and ChibiStudio both have App clips that show a wide range of potential use cases for clips. For its part, Panera shows you the menu for a local place and lets you order directly from Apple Maps, while ChibiStudio’s app clips let you create your own personal avatar or chibi without downloading the entire app.

You can find Panera’s app clips by opening Apple Maps on your iPhone and searching for and viewing information about a Panera breadbasket. A button marked will appear near the top of the information window Order Food; tap it, followed by Open. You are now using an app clip.

For ChibiStudio, you need to visit the app’s website on your iPhone and press Play on the banner at the top of the screen.

The service creates an account for you that links it to your Apple ID and waives the need to provide a new password. And if you want, it can even hide your email address from the service, keep your personal information private and prevent you from receiving more email junk.

Appklipp uses all debit or credit cards that you have added to Apple Pay.

How do you add an app clip?

Adding an app clip to your iPhone can be done in a number of different ways. App clips can be a link on a company website, shared in an iMessage conversation, on company information in Apple Maps, or by touching the phone to an NFC tag or scanning a QR code with the Camera app.

Apple also created specialized App Clip Codes that let you know that it will add the miniaturized version of the app if you scan it.

After viewing the information in an app clip that appears from the bottom of the screen as a small card, you can press Open to add the clip to your phone.

Once a clip has been added to your phone, you do not have to go through the process of adding it back to your iPhone the next time you want to use it, unless you obviously deleted it after you finished.

You can use app clips to see all kinds of information.

Am I stuck with just one app clip? Or can I upgrade to the entire app?

At any time, you can download and install the entire app if you need to do more than what the App Clip provides. For example, if you want to connect your smart light bulb to other services or take full control after setting up your smart light bulb, you can then install the entire app from the App Store.

How do I delete an app clip?

Deleting apps on iOS 14 has changed and it can be confusing, and app clips do not help. You will find all the clips you have used in the app library’s recently added folder and logically you would think that you could press the icon for a long time to get to jiggle mode and then press X to delete. But that is not the case.

Instead, you have to go to settings > App clips where you will find a list of all the app clips currently available on your iPhone, and you have the option to delete them individually, or all at once.

Otherwise, your iPhone will automatically delete a clip if it is not used for 30 days.
