Your iPhone can automatically switch to dark and light modes when the sun goes down and rises «iOS & iPhone :: Gadgethacks

Apple’s Dark Mode in iOS 13 and later offers a cool, convenient viewing experience on your iPhone. You may prefer the dark theme all day, but if you like to use it only at night, it is not very convenient to turn it on and off daily. But there is a setting that allows you to set and forget it, so you never have to do it manually again.

The setting allows your iPhone to activate dark mode automatically when the sun goes down and then switches back to light mode when the sun rises. It can determine the sunset and sunrise times via data from the Weather app, but we have seen it activated early for the most part. To set:

Open Settings, press “Display & Brightness”

; and then toggle the “Automatic” button below Appearance. Below that, the “Options” menu will appear and it should say “Light until sunset” or “Dark until sunrise” by default, depending on whether you currently have light or dark mode. You’re good to go now.

If you had set a custom schedule earlier and forgot, it would say an exact time instead of just sunset or sunrise. To switch, tap that setting, and then tap either “Sunset to Sunrise” or “Sunset to Sunrise” to make it light mode during the day, dark mode at night.

Now you see iOS switching from Light to Dark at sunset and from Dark to Light at sunset – and you never have to lift a finger. However, you may notice that it does not always stick to the sunset and sunrise times, which are displayed in the Weather app for your current location, as we mentioned earlier. This and that will only change when you are not actively using your iPhone, that way it is not a jarring transition.

But you can still change themes manually via the Display & Brightness settings, Control Center or Siri whenever you want. When you do, you only extend the Dark or Light period. For example, if you set Dark Mode manually at 2 pm local time, it will still return to Light at sunrise the next day.

As you can now gather, the scheduling of Dark Mode goes much deeper than just sunrise and sunset. This feature is quite customizable, so if you are looking for more control over your system theme, there is a lot to think about.
